NEW DELHI: Two persons, including the owner of an illegal perfume-packaging unit, were charred to death when a fire broke out in the unit at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi on Tuesday. With an unrecognised nursery school operating on the ground floor and tenants staying in the four-storey building, the incident could have led to a bigger tragedy had the fire fighters not prevented the fire from spreading to other floors. According to a fire department spokesperson, the call about the fire on the first floor of the building at Madanpur Khadar was received around 10-20 a.m. At least six fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was completely doused in about 45 minutes. Subsequently, the fire brigade personnel recovered two charred bodies from the spot. Those who were killed have been identified as Amrul (34) and Salam (28). While Amrul owned the illegal unit, Salam used to work for him. At the time, an unrecognised nursery school, running in four rooms of the ground floor and the basement, was on. All the children were evacuated to safety. However, the tenants on the upper floors could not come down. Meanwhile, Sarita Vihar police are questioning the owner of the building, Babu Lal.
