Cold wave abates

NEW DELHI: A day after the Capital saw the season's coldest day yet at 3.3 degrees Celsius on Monday, cold wave conditions have abated in Delhi with the mercury registering a rise and the minimum temperature settling at 4.8 degrees C.

"Delhi recorded its coldest day in five years this Monday and while the night time temperature will continue to remain low for a couple of days, cold wave conditions have abated. The Capital will wake up to a clear sky with mist in the morning on Wednesday. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 5 degrees C," said a Met department official.

Man kills daughter

NEW DELHI: A man allegedly strangled to death his 18-month-old daughter at Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Gopal, employed with an export firm, had married Neetu last year and was staying in her house at Bapu Park. On Tuesday morning Neetu left for the market, but when she returned she found the child lying motionless and Gopal missing. She rushed the girl to Safdarjung Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Cop killed

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old Delhi Police constable, Anil Sehrawat, posted with the Police Control Room (PCR), who was also engaged in property business, was stabbed to death by at least two young men at Nangloi in West Delhi on Tuesday. A dispute over business transactions is suspected to be behind the murder.

Girl assaulted

NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly criminally assaulted by her neighbour at Hari Nagar in West Delhi on Monday. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to the complainant, she was assaulted by Mohan Rawat (22), a resident of JJ Colony at Hari Nagar. On the basis of her complaint, the police registered a case in the early hours of Tuesday and arrested the accused.

Five `criminals' held

NEW DELHI: Five alleged criminals were arrested from different parts of North-East Delhi this past week. The accused have been identified as Meharban, Ravi, Mohammad Abid, Sanjay and Rakesh. According to the police, Meharban was arrested on charges of kidnapping a minor girl, while Ravi was rounded up while he was fleeing after snatching the chain of a woman at Bhajanpura Chowk. Abid was allegedly involved in burglary cases and Sanjay was into auto-lifting.

Jhuggies gutted

NEW DELHI: At least 350 jhuggis were gutted in a fire that broke out at Bawana in North-West Delhi on Tuesday. No one was reportedly injured. The fire broke out around 6-15 p.m. and at least 15 fire tenders were pressed into service. The district Deputy Commissioner of Police, Virender Singh, also visited the spot.

Workshop at Ansal Institute

NEW DELHI: Ansal Institute of Technology in Gurgaon organised a special four-day workshop for the faculty members of Ansal Institute of Technology this past week. The main focus was on delivery methodologies and issues pertaining to educational development of students vis-à-vis their employability. The workshop was conducted by I.S. Labana, CEO, HandsOn Engineering and Technology.
