ERODE: Despite Madras High Court directive to install reverse osmosis (RO) plants by December 31, around 40 per cent of the tanners and the textile dyers here are yet to initiate steps in this regard. The rest of the units have begun initial works for the installation. Erode district, noted for textiles and printing, has over 300 textile printing and dyeing units. There are also 44 tanneries, of which 25 are chrome tanning units and the rest are into vegetable tanning.
`Will be sealed'
Officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board said that report would be sent to the High Court on units that did not abide its directive, and action would be initiated against the units. This year, about 40 textile units were closed for violating TNPCB norms.
