Mass contact programmes to benefit villagers most: Collector

ERODE: The State Government has granted Rs. 1.22 crore for horticulture development under the National Horticulture Movement, the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, has said.

Participating at a mass contact programme at Vadivullamangalam, near Kodumudi, on Wednesday he said the amount had been used for the formation of small nurseries, new gardens, encouraging the production of turmeric and flowers for export and developing water sources.

The Collector said mass contact programmes were being conducted for the benefit of people living in interior villages.

Mr. Karthikeyan said that all the ration commodities were supplied to family cardholders without any difficulty. In Erode district ration commodities were given through 959 full time ration shops and 231 part time ration shops to 8.49 lakh cardholders.

Under the Annapoorna scheme 10 kg of rice was provided free of cost to 2,320 persons. Under the Anthiyajana Anna Yojana scheme 20 kg of rice was given at Rs. 3 a kg to 72,650 people living below poverty line.

The district administration has arranged the distribution of Community certificates through schools. This year 16,103 students were provided with Community Certificates from schools. If any student required them he/she can apply through the respective school headmaster, Mr. Karthikeyan said.

The Revenue Divisional Officer, P. Kuppusamy, the Special Deputy Collector, Grievances, Maheswari, the chairperson of Kodumudi Panchayat Union, Revathy Thangavel, and others spoke.
