BANGALORE: IT and R&D services firm MindTree Consulting has struck a deal with NEC Corporation to integrate Bluetooth wireless technology into the latter's GSM phones. The MindTree Bluetooth intellectual property allows NEC customers to wirelessly transfer photos, music, video clips, address book contacts and schedules as well as use their phone as a wireless modem and printer. Under the deal, some of NECs GSM phones will port MindTree's Bluetooth stack and profile for short-range wireless features. The phones are already shipped to several parts of the world. MindTree receives royalty payments on every NEC mobile phone sold that ports its Bluetooth IP thereby yielding multiple scalable revenue streams for the company. MindTree's Bluetooth technology IP offerings have been licensed to over 25 customers across the globe so far. " We are now poised to take our Bluetooth solution to a wider range of product manufacturers across the world," S. Janakiraman, President and CEO, R&D Services, MindTree Consulting, told reporters here on Wednesday. The company also unveiled a new analogue integrated circuit with intelligent charging capabilities for Lithium-ion batteries that are commonly used in hand-held mobile devices. The analogue IC will be taped out for fabrication over the next few weeks. The chip is built on the process design kit from a Korean foundry to design, simulate and complete the circuit layout.
