Ajitha files affidavit

KOZHIKODE : In an affidavit filed before the Assistant Sessions Judge, Anweshi president and petitioner in the ice-cream parlour sex racket case Ajitha has sought time to file an appeal in the Supreme Court on the order of the High Court to transfer the case from the Additional Assistant Sessions Court to the Principal Assistant Sessions Court and hold the proceedings in-camera. Ms. Ajitha prayed that she be allowed two weeks time to file her appeal in the Apex Court. Meanwhile, as per the order of Kozhikode Principal Assistant Sessions Judge L.R. Satyan, hearing in the case is to commence on December 16. There are as many as 64 witnesses in the case. Witnesses one to six are to be examined on December 16. Ms. Ajitha is the first witness. — Staff Reporter

Siamese twins born

PARIYARAM: A 27-year-old woman gave birth to conjoined twins at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday. Sali Vincent of Kottiyur Chunkakunnu here gave birth to the Siamese twins in her second delivery. Both the mother and the twins are healthy, the hospital authorities said. Hospital gynaecologist P.V. Jose said the gender of the newborns could not be known as their lower abdomens were conjoined. They come under the category of omphalopagus twins. They share the same urinary bladder and umbilical cord. A scanning conducted three days before the delivery had identified the twins as conjoined. It was a pre-term delivery, he said. They weigh 4.9 kg and are stable and taking feeds. Any plan for separating the twins will be finalised after detailed scanning, Dr. Jose said. — Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M. Janardhanan, Purchase and Stores officer, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram was presented the award for the Best Faculty of the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM) at a function, (NATCOM 2005) held at Kolkata recently. He was selected for the award taking into consideration his outstanding contributions in the field of professional education in human resource management and materials management. — Staff Reporter

Plea on Padma awards

KOCHI: The Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation has urged the Central Government to keep film actors and sportspersons out of reckoning for the Padmashree, Padmabhushan and other civilian awards. Eby J. Jose, chairman of the foundation, in his letter to the Prime Minister and Home Minister, said the activities of many actors and sportspersons who had won the awards in the past were `not exemplary.' — Special Correspondent
