Directive to beautify Maulana Azad's grave

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities to remove all illegal constructions around the historic Jama Masjid and beautify the grave of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad for public viewing within six weeks.

A division bench of Justices Vijender Jain and Rekha Sharma said ``I am a great fan of Azad and his grave should be developed like that of the graves of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.'' ``Open the gate after beautifying it, so that people can pay respect to the great freedom fighter,'' said the court.

The Justices directed the Delhi Government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to develop the grave as a monument commensurating to the stature of the great son of India. UNI
