Court allows students to appear for exams

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed school education authorities to issue hall tickets to 23 teacher education students and allow them to write examinations likely to commence on December 13.

Justice P.D. Dinakaran passed the order on a batch of writ petitions filed by the students, who were disallowed from writing the examinations on the ground that earlier writ petitions filed by their institutions had been dismissed by the High Court.

The Judge also allowed their counsel P. Chandrasekaran's plea to allow the students to appear for the re-examination at several teacher training institutes in the flood affected Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Tiruchi and Villupuram districts.

He said that after appearing for their first examination on November 23, students from the flood-hit areas could not take the examinations conducted from November 24 onwards. The re-examinations are expected to commence in the second week of December, Mr. Chandrasekaran added.

The petitioners, including A. Bala Saroja of SBG Teacher Training Institute at Mutharasanallur in Tiruchi district, submitted that many other students of the institute, who were also admitted under the management quota, were allowed to take their examinations in November.
