HYDERABAD: Now, knee and hip replacement surgeries in the city can be carried out with the help of a computer navigation system that offers patients improved surgical accuracy, less bleeding, less pain and faster recovery. Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has launched a `Computer Navigation System (Robotics)' for joint replacement surgeries of the hip and knee on Tuesday.
Human error
"Up till now Joint Replacement surgeries were done manually with human error creeping in from time to time, but with the new system, chances of such errors will get eliminated," said B.Bhaskar Rao, Director and CEO of KIMS, in a release. Also called `Computer Assisted Surgery', this technology will help the surgeon precisely align the artificial joint in the bone, making it an effective long-term treatment, the release said. Gurava Reddy, Director and Chief of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgeon, KIMS, said, that this system would enable him to perform `squatting knee' surgery, which will allow patients to squat after knee replacement.
