NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued contempt of court notices to Police Commissioner K.K. Paul, the Power Secretary of the Delhi Government and the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department (PWD) asking them to explain why encroachments on a public land abutting Ring Road near Bhairon Road T-point in the New Delhi area had not been removed despite repeated orders by it. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma asked the three senior officials to tell the Court by Feb. 1 why action be not initiated against them for "wilful flouting of the orders". The Court has been hearing a suo motu petition in the matter for the past four years. "It is shocking that despite the orders, the encroachments have not been removed, and all the past directions have been flouted with impunity," the Bench observed. "What a mockery of the implementation of the orders," the Court exclaimed. "Neither the committee nor the authorities have cared to read earlier orders."
