Attempt to popularise careers in basic science

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: At a time when professional courses continue to get the cream of talent it has become imperative for teachers to motivate students to opt for science subjects.

An attempt to make students understand the significance of basic sciences is being made each year by Yadava College in Madurai. The second contact programme on science motivation for Plus One students is being organised from December 26 to January 1.

It will deliberate on the need for entry into basic sciences, current developments, future prospects, placement opportunities, research areas and application of basic sciences for the welfare of the society.

A series of lectures, discussions, meet-the-scientist and quiz programmes has been planned.

Science essay contests and communication development programmes will also be conducted. Innovative proposals on basic sciences from the participants are accepted at the programme and the best ones assured rewards.

The organisers have made arrangements to bring in eminent scientists to ignite the scientific temper in students.

For further details, contact P.S. Navaraj, Principal Coordinator, Yadava College, Madurai-625 014.
