CHENNAI: Vocalist P.S. Narayanaswamy was conferred the `Sangeetha Kala Jyothi' Birudhu and Bharatanatyam exponent Saroja Vaidyanathan the `Natya Kala Jyothi' title at the inauguration of the 36th anniversary celebrations and art festival of Sri Kapali Fine Arts on Wednesday. A gold medallion, a certificate of appreciation and a shawl formed part of the Birudhu, which was presented by former Supreme Court Judge Justice S. Natarajan to the artists.
Praise for Kapali Fine Arts
Mr. Natarajan praised the efforts of Kapali Fine Arts in nurturing Carnatic music and classical dance for about 36 years. He also traced the growth of traditional forms of Carnatic music and dance programmes. S.P. Mani, former assistant general manager, United India Insurance, commended the role played by Mr. Narayanaswamy in promoting Carnatic music. He lauded Ms. Saroja Vaidyanathan for her contribution as a dancer and vocalist. N. Sundararaman, honorary secretary, sought the help of rasikas of the city for building a permanent hall.
