Irappa and Naresh clinch gold medals

HYDERABAD: Irappa D. Akki of Army Red clinched the gold in the inter-services cross-country championship (12km), clocking 37:28.0 at Artillery Centre here on Thursday. Manoj Singh (37:32.00) and Gursevak Singh (37:35.00) got silver and bronze medals respectively. In the four-km event, Naresh Kumar clocked 12:10.26 to win the gold. Amar Singh (12:11.48) and Sonewane Sachin (12:12.42) took silver and bronze respectively.

Chess players lauded

M.S. Raj Thakur, SAAP chairman, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, VC & MD of SAAP, congratulated M. Vaishnavi (under-8), V. Rajesh (under-10) and K. Sai Nirupama (under-10) for winning gold medals in their respective categories in the recently-concluded Asian youth chess championship.

Rushiraj wins

Rushiraj recorded a two-wicket win against FMC in the B Division knock-out cricket tournament here.

The scores: FMC 180 (Bhanu Prakash 42, Ravi 51) lost to Rushiraj 183 for eight (Rajni four for 22).

MCH football

Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will organise a seven-a-side football tournament on December 21 at Red Hills Grounds. Entries close on December 19. Details can be had from MCH Director of Sports (Ph: 93924 55433).

Hockey trials

Trials to select the district senior men's hockey team for the 22nd Andhra inter-district championship to be held at Guntur from Dec. 27 to 30, will be held at DLB hockey ground at Visakhapatnam from 3 p.m. on Dec. 17. Those interested can report at the venue at 2.30 p.m.

Ball badminton meet

Ranga Reddy District Ball Badminton Association will organise the senior championship for men and women at Dr. A.S. Rao Nagar on December 18.
