NEW LIFE: The newly wed couple Leela and R. Rajashekaran Pillai with Kollam Mayor N. Padmalochanan and District Collector B. Sreenivas.
KOLLAM: December 15 was a great moment in the life of Leela who had been a resident of the Social Welfare Department-run Mahila Mandiram here since the past 20 years. This day, she sat as a bride to accept R. Rajashekaran Pillai from Kottarakara as her husband. It was an arranged marriage. The wedding took place at the Municipal Town Hall in the presence of more than 300 guests, including Kollam Mayor N. Padmalochanan, District Collector B. Sreenivas, Health Standing Chairman of the Kollam Corporation Prasanna Earnest, vice-president of the Suhurth Samiti J. Rajashekaran, and president of the International Centre for Studies and Development Mariamma Mathew. Leela was first housed at the Mavelikara Children's Home. Later, she was under the care of the Kollam Aftercare Home, and on turning 18 she was shifted to the Mahila Mandiram here. is employed at Punalur as an anganwadi helper. Rajashekaran is a farmer.
