Group `D' employees on mass leave

Pondicherry: The Central Federation of Group `D` Employees working in various departments here are on mass leave since December 12 urging the Administration to concede its charter of demands.

Federation general secretary A. Ganapathy said here on Thursday that the administration should immediately hike the pay structure of employees by refixing the emoluments at Rs. 3,200-4,900 in the place of Rs. 3,050-4,590.

He said washing allowance paid to employees should also be raised to Rs. 60 a month. The other demands were: part-time and daily wage paid workers should be confirmed within the departments they were now working in.

Members of the PWD Water Works Employees Association held a dharna in front of the Assembly on Thursday in support of their demands that they be sanctioned promotional opportunities and implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.
