B. V. S. Bhaskar

The launch, actually scheduled for December 15, has been postponed

  • Now, operations will begin only after DGCA clearance and nod from district MPs
  • Madhurapudi airport, which is about 15 km from Rajahmundry, does not have infrastructure for big aircraft
  • Airline announces plan to run small aircraft

Rajahmundry: Air Deccan is set to operate its services from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad within two-three weeks. Actually the same airline decided to launch operations on Thursday (December 15), but the programme was postponed for reasons not known to local airport authorities. The scheduled operations will begin only after the Director-General of Civil Aviation gives clearance and they are also supposed to get a nod from three Parliament members in the district.

However, Air Deccan sources in Banglore and Hyderabad did not confirm the date of commencement of their services, but said that they were in the process of getting clearances and launching formalities with the Chief Minister's office for launch, probably in the first or second week of next month. MD of Air Deccan G.R. Gopinath confirmed that they would operate small aircraft from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad within two weeks.
