CHANDIGARH: With 10 more Special Economic Zones being approved in principle by the Centre, Haryana is poised to become the No. One State in the country aiming to exceed the growth rate of Gujarat which was 8.2 per cent, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Thursday. Addressing trade and industry in the PHDCCI Centenary Partnership Summit: Haryana here, he appreciated that the PHDCCI understood the importance of a State which was already producing more than 50 per cent of the cars, 40 per cent of the tractors and 50 per cent of the motorcycles in the country. He claimed that the new industrial policy that was launched in June this year had started yielding the desired results and the State had received concrete proposals for investment to the tune of about Rs. 7,000 crores. Further, the recent MOU signed by the State Government with the Reliance Industries "demonstrates the faith'' that the private sector had in his regime, he added. The PHDCCI President, K. N. Memani, said that Haryana had the potential on account of its locational advantage in the immediate hinterland of the national capital, the relatively superior infrastructure and the mission- like attitude of the people to succeed supported by the public leadership. He said that the State Government should enter into a dialogue with the Gas Authority of India to facilitate transmission and distribution of natural gas to the centres for industry. Udyog Ratna Awards were presented to the eminent industrialists of the Haryana region.
