Baramulla on development path

Rs. 6226 lakhs spent on different development projects


  • Chief Minister Azad calls for drastic change in work culture
  • `Launch schemes which could be completed within the set time frame'

    Baramulla: Burying the hatchet of militancy, this north Kashmir district is witnessing massive development as an amount of Rs. 6226 lakhs has been spend on different projects, an official spokesman said on Thursday.

    Giving a briefing on the District Development Board (DDB) day-long meeting held on Wednesday he said that the current year's Annual Plan for Baramulla district was formulated at Rs 9744.84 lakhs out of which revenue component was Rs 5145.66 lakhs and capital component Rs 4599.18 lakhs inclusive of Rs 2029.92 lakhs loan assistance from identified lending agencies.

    The expenditure ending November 2005 is Rs 6226 lakhs out of released expenditure, which shows 72.24 per cent expenditure incurred on released amount, the meeting was informed.

    Underscoring the importance for close co-ordination between government departments and public representatives while formulating district plans, the Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, called for giving priority to the completion of ongoing schemes to ensure that benefits accrue to the common people.

    Mr Azad, who presided over the meeting appealed public representatives to get involved in plan formulation and help launch such schemes as could be completed within the time frame and as per the financial allocations.

    The perception of work culture has to be drastically changed and atmosphere of honest management of affairs created in all units of the administration, Mr Azad added.

    Let integrity, honesty and dedication be hall marks of work culture in the State, he said and added that with this conception an accountable, responsive and transparent administration will emerge fulfilling the expectations of the people.

    While giving a resume of achievements registered by various departments, the District Development Commissioner of Baramulla M.K. Verma informed that under RDD sector 587 works were completed and 28.96 lakh man days generated.

    Similarly 305 beneficiaries were provided financial assistance for constructing houses under IAY.

    Likewise, under Industries sector 119 self-employment units were registered that provided employment to over 700 youths besides 84 unemployed youth were provided loan for establishment of units, he added.

    Under Sericulture sector, 5.30 lakh mulbery plants were planted and silk warm seed distributed to cocoon growers.

    Under R&B sector 61.40 kilometres of road have been blacktopped while in the education sector 43 new primary schools were opened and 540 RTS and 435 education volunteers engaged, he added. -- UNI
