Eye institute clarifies on LASIK surgery
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The L. V. Prasad Eye Institute has clarified that there was no question mark over LASIK surgery and it was a safe and proven procedure "in the right hands for the right patients."
Responding to a report, Dr. Pravin Krishna, consultant, has said that it was not an unsafe and unethical procedure and the only question mark was over the way LASIK was performed by untrained ophthalmologists unscrupulously. He said that many patients come to the institute with complications after undergoing LASIK elsewhere, without proper evaluation and it was not true that these complications occurred at the LVPEI.
He said that LASIK was performed at LVPEI only after a thorough evaluation and "we have not had any complaints from patients".
The "cut practice" too was not as rampant as implied. "We clearly stated that we were talking about only a minority of doctors."
