CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday announced a bonanza of incentives for ex-servicemen in the State. These include setting up of an ex-Servicemen corporation, defence colonies, 10 per cent reservation for ex-Servicemen in group housing societies to be set up by the Haryana Urban Development Authority, enhancement in the financial assistance for ex-Servicemen and setting up of a company of eco-task force comprising ex-Servicemen. He was addressing a State-level reunion conference of ex-servicemen at Rewari on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, the day when the Pakistani army had surrendered before the Indian Army in 1971. While paying rich tributes to the martyrs, Mr. Hooda said that defence colonies would be set up in towns of Haryana, especially at Rewari, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Jind. He said that financial assistance for ex-Servicemen of World War II who were not getting any pension from the Centre or the State Government would be increased from Rs. 500 to Rs. 800 per month. The State has 3, 800 such ex-servicemen, he added. Those who had served for one or two years even before Independence, their financial assistance would also be increased from Rs. 500 to Rs. 800. The State Government has decided to give ex-gratia to all ranks of para-military forces at par with those of the Army. The recipients of gallantry awards like Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Shorya Chakra, Sena Medal and mention-in-despatches would get four times more financial assistance from today. In addition, the recipients of Param Vashist Sewa Medal, Ati Vashist Sewa Medal and Vir Sewa Medal would get financial assistance at par with Punjab. Mr. Hooda said that the anomaly regarding giving cash in lieu of land to the recipients of Shorya Padak before July 1, 1985 would be removed. Also, the recipients of Ashok Chakra would get Rs. 1 lakh, that of Kirti Chakra Rs. 50,000, Shorya Chakra Rs. 30,000 and Sena Medal, Nau Sena Medal and Vayu Sena Medal would get Rs. 20,000 each. The war widows and the parents of bachelor martyrs would now get the facility of CSD canteen. He also announced the decision to double the monthly scholarship for the wards of ex-Servicemen studying in school. He also announced the decision to double the monthly pension admissible to the widows and the children of those army personnel who died in harness. He said that ex-Servicemen would now be deputed to note down the readings of electricity meters in districts.
Anganwadi centres
The Department of Women and Child Development in the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has sanctioned 2,813 more Anganwadi centres for Haryana during the current financial year, the Haryana Chief Secretary, Meenaxi Anand Chaudhry, said here on Friday.
