Smart Cards for Defence canteens

CONCERTED EFFORT: NCC Deputy Director Brig. O.A. James inaugurating the new Defence canteen block in Kollam on Saturday.

KOLLAM: The Defence canteen in Kollam is the first in the State where Smart Cards have been introduced. The system was formally launched by National Cadet Corps (NCC) Deputy Director Brig. O.A. James here on Saturday after he inaugurated the new block of the Defence canteen in the NCC complex at Thevally.

Brig. James said that the Smart Card facility would be extended to all the Defence canteens in the State. The facility will be provided at the canteens in Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur by January end. A smart card holder can avail himself of the facility to purchase from canteens in any district in the State.

In Kollam, the Defence canteen has 7,000 members and 5,000 have been issued the smart cards.

Brig. James said that 104 NCC cadets from the State would participate in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. Twenty five cadets from Kollam district will participate, he said.
