Do not overburden anganwadi workers, says Minister

Staff Correspondent

Instructions given to Chief Executive Officers of zilla panchayats

DAVANGERE: All the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of zilla panchayats in the State have been instructed not to avail themselves of the the services of anganwadi workers for any department other than the Department of Women and Child Welfare, said Minister for Women and Child Development Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagowda.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Ms. Bhagirathi said that it had come to her notice that anganwadi workers were engaged by different departments for various programmes and schemes.

Meagre salary

She said that she had no objection if the workers participated in programmes or schemes on their own but they should not be forced to work for other departments. It was inhuman to extract too much work from them for a meagre salary, she said. Hence she had directed all the CEOs to give them work as per guidelines only. They should not be overburdened with work by different departments.

It has made it mandatory on CEOs to seek the consent of the Department of Women and Child Welfare before engaging the anganwadi workers for other Governmental programmes, she said.
