KOCHI: The city corporation has proposed the building of a road connecting Ernakulam North and South railway stations. "The road will run parallel to the railway line, this being the shortest route between the two stations," said Deputy Mayor, C.K. Manisankar. The advantage of this road was that there would not be any need for much land acquisition, since most of the land on this route was in the hands of the corporation, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and the Railways. An opening had been given at the Ambedkar Stadium, near the KSRTC bus stand, to help get the road ready. "Work can start on the seven-metre-wide road once Government agencies and private parties hand over land. In the southern side, there is land belonging to the corporation and the GCDA. In the northern side, a portion of the land to be acquired belongs to the Railways."
