Vikasa Vidyavanam takes `the Maa Badi' route in this endeavour

  • It's a unique educational programme where children take the initiative
  • Students, right from pre-school to SSC, take active part
  • Project reports, drawing and paintings and attractive models form essential part of the expo

VIJAYAWADA: Maa Badi, the education programme, spread cheer and joy on the premises of Vikasa Vidyavanam at Poranki on Sunday.

Students welcomed their parents into the school, accompanied them to classrooms that were transformed into exhibition halls adorned with drawings and paintings done by them. Prose and poetry penned by students, compilation of project reports on different subjects like environment, literature, media, war and peace, international relations and revolution in communications formed part of the unique expo.

Flags and flowers dotted the school campus while the enthusiastic students kept themselves busy explaining their works to the parents.

    New concept

Deviating from the usual practice of celebrating school annual day by inviting guests and presenting a cultural programme, the management of Vikas Vidyavanam introduced a new concept three years ago and began inviting parents as guests to the school on a Sunday.

Arrangements for the daylong event begin at least three months in advance as all students, right from the pre-school down to SSC, take active part in it.

Compiling of project reports, drawing and paintings and attractive models form an essential part of the expo. To keep the parents informed about their wards' performance, the school management calls for parents' meetings six times a year.

But `Maa Badi' is an altogether different experience for children who take the lead and invite their parents to see and feel happy over their academic progress.

    Unique approach

"We do not punish students for mistakes. Instead, we explain them the consequences and ask them not to repeat the mistake. The new mode has raised curiosity among parents and it is their inquisitiveness that brings them to the school," says P.V.D. Bhavani, principal. She says the basic objective is allow children to grow in a natural way.
