MANGALORE: President of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy M.K. Seetharama Kulal on Sunday called upon Tulu writers to contribute more to the growth of children's literature. Speaking at a function organised to release "Ajjana Gadda", a collection of Tulu poems for children written by Raghu Idkidu, a lecturer at the Canara Pre-University College here, Mr. Kulal said that influence of Western culture on children has deprived them of an opportunity to understand the basics of Tulu culture. Simple poems or stories written in Tulu can help children understand and evince interest in Tulu culture. He said that like many other native cultures, Tulu culture is facing threat owing to the influence of Western culture. If Tulu writers can write for children, who are the future generation, the language and culture will sustain. Amrut Someshwar, writer, who released the book said that children's literature is an important form of literature. It has not got due prominence as it has been neglected by writers. Children's literature should focus more on imparting moral aspects and aspects of reality. Duggappa Kajekar, Registrar (in-charge), Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy; and Ganesh Prasad Pandelu, president, Dakshina Kannada District Chutuku Sahitya Parishat, spoke.
