`Consultancy firms facing intense competition'

KOCHI:
Intense competition from consultants in developed countries and low equity-based operations, along with their small sizes, are the biggest challenges facing the Indian consultancy and services sectors, said Deepak Aggarwal, Director-General, Consultancy Development Centre, here on Monday.
He was delivering the keynote address at a on `Consultancy and services sector: challenges and prospects,' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Kerala, in association with Consultancy Development Centre, New Delhi, and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology.
Nearly 500 firms and a lakh professionals are engaged in consultancy business in India and consultancy is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian economy, he said.
India is on the way to becoming a global knowledge centre and has an important role to play in the field in the future, he added.
