Quit gracefully

This refers to the editorial, `A hard choice on Ganguly' (Dec. 19). As you have rightly said, the selectors should have given Sourav Ganguly a grand farewell by including him for the Ahmedabad Test and by making him see reason that it is time to leave gracefully.

Ganguly was a shrewd captain who kept his flock together at all times. But, like all good things, his career too has to end at one time or the other.

M.R. Prasad,
Podanur, T.N.

Ganguly's selection to the Indian team, first in 1992 and later in 1996, was seen to be on non-cricketing reasons. So is his exit now. This is the tragedy of Indian cricket.

Pramod Arikal,
Mumbai
