BELLARY: The "guru vandana" of Sri Sanganabasava Swamiji of Kottur Mutt was held at Hospet on Sunday with religious fervour. Swamijis of various mutts were present. Discourses and a symposium on communal harmony were also held. The devotees have decided to offer Rs. 1 crore to the swamiji. The swamiji plans to utilise it to create a corpus and take up relief works during natural calamities. Shivaratri Deshikendraswamiji of Suttur Mutt, Mysore, who inaugurated the function, said that mutts should help people lead a good life and commended the efforts of Sri Sanganabasava Swamiji in this regard. Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who released the "abhinandana grantha", "Harida Heddore" brought out on the occasion, said that in the present day where moral values were sinking, religious heads had to assume greater responsibility in leading society in the right direction. Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash was all praise for Sri Sanganabasava Swamiji for practising equality and introducing "dasoha", which he said was a revolutionary step. Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Udupi, said that the Veerashaiva mutts had been doing yeoman service to society by imparting education through its several institutions. Such a tradition was seen only in Karnataka and not elsewhere, he said. Swamijis of Koppal Gavimutt, Moorusavira Mutt, Hubli, Adi Chunchanagiri Mutt, were present.
