NEW DELHI: Commissioner for Khadi and Village Industries Commission C. Chandran has said that during 2004-2005 KVIC exceeded the target of 5.25 lakh by providing employment to 5.30 lakh people under its Rural Employment Generation Programme.

Buoyed by the success of its rural programme, KVIC now aims to provide employment to 5.56 lakh people across the country for the year 2005-2006, said Mr. Chandran at a press conference here this past week.

After chairing a North zone meeting here that saw the participation of representatives of State Khadi and Villages Industries Boards and State Level Banker's Committee, he expressed satisfaction over completion of 70 per cent of the annual Rural Employment Generation Programme of the North zone.

"The two States of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan have done exceptionally well in terms of employment generation. The total margin money or subsidy allotted to North zone comprising Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab is Rs.86.46 crores and employment target is 12,3897 people", said Mr. Chandran.
