MANGALORE: The Indian Navy has started a move to decongest its naval base in Mumbai by progressively basing ships at its new base at Karwar, INS Kadamba, Commodore K.P. Ramachandran has said. Addressing mediapersons on board INS Subhadra, offshore patrol vessel anchored at New Mangalore Port as part of Navy Day celebrations here on Monday, Commodore Ramachandran said six naval ships will be shifted to INS Kadamba in the first phase by the end of next year. An officer of the rank of Rear Admiral will be posted as Flag Officer at the Karwar base, by next year, he said. The Western Fleet headquarters too will be shifted to Karwar in a phased manner.
