TAMBARAM: All road overbridges and other projects taken up by the Railways would be completed by June next year, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T. R. Baalu and Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at Tambaram after inspecting railway projects that were in progress in South Chennai, the Ministers said railway projects where work had already started would be completed by June 2006. The Ministers inspected the construction sites of bridges at Saidapet, Velachery, Tirusulam, Pallavaram and Tambaram Sanatorium.

They said small bridges were being constructed at Velachery across the MRTS track for easy flow of rainwater during the monsoon. They then visited the road overbridge under construction that will connect the Grand Southern Trunk Road and the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road.

The Ministers also visited the limited use subway for two-wheelers and cars at Tambaram and the pedestrian subways at Tambaram and Sanatorium railway stations. They said due to the stagnation of water in the limited use subway, traffic flow was hampered and lighting facilities affected.

Motorised pump

The authorities were directed to install another motorised pump to pump out water faster and to improve lighting facilities at these subways for the convenience of pedestrians and motorists.
