This Day That Age
For the first time in the history of Indian Parliament, written statements of members are to be allowed to become part of the proceedings. This concession, given in the Lok Sabha on December 19 by the Speaker, Mr. G. V. Mavlankar, will, however, be confined to the States Reorganisation Commission's report. Finding that he might not be able to accommodate everyone who wished to speak on the report, Mr. Mavlankar said he was permitting members to give short statements, not exceeding two pages, and these would be included in the record. The Speaker added that the members might place them on the table irrespective of whether they got a chance to speak or not.
