Two policemen injured in landmine blast

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: Maoists detonated three powerful landmines near Sirisingandla in Thoguta mandal of Medak district injuring a Sub-Inspector and a constable on Tuesday morning.

Thoguta Sub-inspector Rajesh, probationary SI Lingeswara Rao, constables Ramulu and Ch.Goud reached the village on two motorcycles around 11 a.m. on a routine visit and found red flags hoisted near a martyr's memorial by Maoists. While Rajesh and Ramulu were trying to uproot the flagposts, Maoists, said to be two in number, detonated three landmines from their hideouts. The two policemen were tossed into the air underthe impact of the blast.

The Sub-Inspector, who himself was badly hurt, picked up the constable on his motorcycle and drove up to Sirisingandla village and lost consciousness.

The other two policemen who were away from the spot took the injured person to the Siddipet Government Hospital from where they were shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad. Both policemen had fractured limbs as their lower body parts bore the brunt of the blast. Later, the police found one more landmine intact near the site.

All the landmines were connected by wires and operated by the Maoists, who were hiding behind piles of hay opposite the memorial.

The police confirmed that one of them could have given the signal and the other might have detonated. The police found food sufficient for a couple of days and a grenade from the two hideouts.

Red alert

A red alert has been sounded in Medak district following the blast. Medak SP Sujatha Rao and Siddipet SDPO Ramnarayan Reddy visited Sirisingandla and were supervising the combing operations.
