KOCHI: Daniel Acharuparampil, Archbishop of Varappuzha, has said the Latin Catholic community stands firm in its policy of keeping an equal distance from both the political fronts in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the Archbishop said the Latin Catholic Church wanted the State Government to implement the recommendations of the Narendran Commission. He said the demand had been raised through the forum of the Kerala Regional Latin Catholic Council. The current regime in Thiruvananthapuram is aware of the fairness of the demand, he said adding the political climate in the State might have prevented the implementation of the Commission's recommendations. But denying a community its legitimate rights over a long a period will have its own consequences and the Latin Catholic community will be forced to resort to remedial measures in the democratic process, he said. The Archbishop said the community had not looked at the attack on the Neyattinkara Bishop's House as a political issue and this had its reflection in the results of the byelection to the Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram. Neyattinkara is one of the segments in which the ruling Front did relatively better.
