DHARWAD: The Election Wing of the district administration has said that 75.17 per cent of polling has been recorded in Dharwad district during the first phase of the zilla and taluk panchayat elections held on Monday. In a release here on Tuesday, the Election Wing has said that of the 4,91,912 eligible voters in the district, 3,71,106 cast their votes. Out of 2,54,912 men, 1,96,896 (77.24 per cent) have voted while 1,73,210 (73.08 per cent) have voted out of 2,37,000 women voters. Kalghatgi taluk has registered the highest percentage of polling in the district where 78.73 per cent voters exercised their franchise followed by Dharwad (76.38), Hubli (75.17) and Kundagol (73.62). Navalgund taluk has registered the lowest average of 71.95 per cent. Polling booth No. 23 in Begur village of Kalghatgi taluk has registered the highest polling percentage (93.61) while the polling booth at B. Aralikatti in Hubli taluk has registered the lowest average polling of 41 per cent. In Dharwad taluk, 78.69 per cent of men and 73.92 per cent of women have exercised their franchise. Details of the other taluks are: Kalghatgi (79.49 and 77.93), Hubli (77.01 and 73), Navalgund (74.55 and 69.20), Kundagol (75.28 and 71.80).
