COIMBATORE: Actor and president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, Vijaykanth, on Tuesday said he was against politicising the stampede at a relief token distribution centre in Chennai. "I cannot say on which side the fault lies. But it is a lesson for all," he told reporters here. Mr. Vijaykanth said two television channels had reported that "rumours" had triggered the stampede and that relief was reaching the wrong persons. "I got reports that those who were not affected by the floods were also getting the relief." All these could be avoided if the relief is distributed through ration shops or even at the doorstep. Mr. Vijaykanth said he was firm on going it alone in the Assembly elections. "If my intention is to win with the support of someone else, I need to only ask any party for a seat." Challenging other parties to contest all the 234 seats, he said, "Only then there will be healthy politics." Asserting that people yearned for a change, he said only time would tell whether the crowd that turned up for his meetings would translate into votes. "I tell people that they have given a chance to other parties. Now, give me a chance."
