Time discipline must in House, says Speaker
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy has said that unless the members maintained time discipline, the House cannot function smoothly.
Speaking to reporters after the Assembly was adjourned sine die, Mr. Suresh Reddy expressed satisfaction that major issues came up for discussions. "The members used various options available to them to raise the issues," he said and added they still had regrets that other issues had not come up for discussion.
"I can understand their agony. But it is for the members to maintain time discipline and allow the business of the House to run properly," he added. He said in a parliamentary democracy, the welfare of people was important. He said during the golden jubilee celebrations of the Assembly, the speakers had made a passionate appeal to the members to take inspiration from the past. Even the Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, echoed similar sentiments. But the conduct of the members was otherwise, he remarked.
