HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party will shortly launch a mass contact programme to highlight public issues and expose the Government's failure in redressing them. This decision was taken at the Telugu Desam legislature meeting chaired by party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday after the Assembly was adjourned sine die. A team of MLAs will undertake intensive tours of all districts in the coming days and enlighten the people about `neglect' of welfare and development programmes.
Irregularities
A 20-member delegation is to visit Warangal district in the wake of alleged irregularities in the sanction of houses for weaker sections. Senior TDP legislator E. Dayakar Rao told reporters that the delegation would interact with beneficiaries and expose the `misdeeds' of the housing staff. He alleged that more than 5,000 houses had been sanctioned on fictitious names to benefit a political party. A sum of Rs. 20 crores of the Rs. 24 crores sanctioned for the programme was misused, he alleged. The MLAs' teams to be drafted for different districts would inspect welfare hostels. Mr. Rao stated that the MLAs had been asked to be more active in view of the forthcoming panchayat elections and expose the Government's failure to tackle important issues. The meeting expressed satisfaction that the Government was cornered on several issues in the Assembly. It denounced the ruling party's tactics to scuttle controversial questions. The meeting decided that the party should gear up and confront the Government during the budget session.
