Lucknow: At least eight people were murdered in the past 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh. Police said on Tuesday that Mohammadpur village Pradhan Ramsakhi, her husband Bulaki and son Monu were shot dead on Monday evening in Fatehpur district. Tension prevailed in the area following the sensational murders and PAC has been deployed. A report from Kannauj district said Sarontop village pradhan and Samajwadi Party leader Mustkin Ali was fatally shot by unidentified miscreants on Monday. Ali was a notorious history-sheeter of the district. In another incident, at Phulwaria village of Gorakhpur district, three persons including a woman were killed in a bomb attack. The miscreants also set afire several houses in the area and fled. A PWD contractor Yogesh Awasthi alias Raja (30) was shot dead in broad daylight under Hazratganj area of the state Capital on Monday. Awasthi was an activist of the Samajwadi Party and was eyeing to contest the municipal polls from Lucknow. Later, the Lucknow Police arrested Niranjan for his alleged involvement in the case. He is said to be an aide of incarcerated international mafia don Bablu Srivastava. -- UNI
