`Only Congress has vision for development'

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: Congress leaders on Tuesday wound up the panchayat election campaign in the district by appealing to the people to support only a party that has a broad vision.

Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President M. Mallikarjun Kharge addressed two election rallies at Horthi in Indi taluk and Chikkaroogi in Sindagi taluk.

At Horthi, the Chief Minister said the Congress is a party with social commitment and has a broad vision for development. For decades, the party has stood with the socially and economically oppressed, the rural masses and farmers. Voters should not be misled by the Opposition propaganda, he said.

Mr. Kharge said voters should not be swayed by the campaign of those whose only mission was to come to power. It is not enough for voters to consider only the candidates. They should also look at the party they represent. Unlike other parties the Congress has a long history of sacrifices for the nation, he said.

Urging voters to understand the importance of the panchayat elections, he said if the Congress wins more seats it will do so in the next Assembly elections too.

Referring to the demand made by M.B. Patil, Tikota MLA, Mr. Kharge said the State Government is committed to all the irrigation schemes of the Upper Krishna Project, including the Mulwad Lift Irrigation Scheme. The State is fully prepared to utilise its share of Krishna waters.
