NEW DELHI: The national secretary of the youth wing of a political party in Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Krishna Nagar in East Delhi on Sunday for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 55-year-old woman at Sahibabad about a year ago. The police claimed to have recovered three firearms from his possession. On December 17, Constable Sunil of the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch received a tip-off that Sunil Bhati, a contract killer, would come to Kotla village to meet someone. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and arrested him following a brief encounter. During interrogation, Sunil allegedly confessed to his involvement in three murder cases. In one of the cases, he had allegedly murdered Sunita Khanna, a resident of Sahibabad, at the instance of Mukesh (37), the national secretary of the youth wing of a political party. The police raided Mukesh's Krishna Nagar residence on Sunday and arrested him. During a search, they recovered a .32 bore revolver registered in his name in Delhi, and two rifles that were in the name of his relatives based in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, Mukesh allegedly confessed to having paid Rs. 1 lakh to Sunil to eliminate Ms. Khanna, as she was unable to repay Rs. 16 lakhs she had borrowed from him to invest in furnishing business. According to the police, Mukesh is a prosperous farmer and owns a dairy in the trans-Yamuna area.
