ONGOLE: Joint Director of Education Prasad is taking a close look into the rationalization, promotions and transfers of teachers made through counselling in Prakasam district to find out irregularities, fix responsibility and suggest remedial measures to the Government. Following complaints, the Government has suspended the District Educational Officer and appointed a special officer to resolve the imbroglio created by counselling which has adversely affected teachers and also teaching in Prakasam district.
Records seized
The Special Officer, Mr Prasad, along with four assistant directors, came from Guntur and seized all records pertaining to counselling. Speaking to The Hindu here today, Mr. Prasad said that they would be able to assess the problem and the causes that led to it in the next two days. They would consult teachers and their unions as to how best the problem could be solved. As the counselling process was over, the District Selection Committee had become non-existent and Government alone was competent now to cancel transfer orders already issued and issue fresh orders, he said. He, however, assured the teachers, who were transferred but could not join for want of vacancy at the other end, that there would be no break in service for them. "They cannot be penalized for the mistakes committed by others," he felt. He asked the affected teachers to report to the concerned Mandal Education Officer and accept any work he assigned to them till they got fresh orders from the Government.
Want of vacancy
Saying that at least 300 teachers could not join duty for want of vacancy, he admitted that it would adversely affect teaching and show its impact on the SSC results this year. He said that the five-member team would examine whether rationalization, blocking of 30 per cent posts and promotions were done as per Government norms or not. He said that there was no transparency in blocking of posts or display of vacancies which gave scope for irregularities. While district Collector headed the committee on rationalization, zilla parishad chairman headed two other committees.
