KURNOOL: The controversy over Multi-purpose Health Workers Training Institute, where former girl child workers were enrolled, took a controversial turn with the health officials saying that they were not eligible to take examinations in January as the institute did not have approval to enrol students. In fact, the students completed 18 months training in the school. District Medical and Health Officer K.K. Sai Prasad visited the institute in the city on Tuesday and inquired with the representatives of the management. While the school authorities claimed that the applications were pending with the Health Department, the officials said the school was not authorised to sponsor the candidates.
Parents shocked
The girls and their parents were shocked by the news that they might not complete the course this year. Health officials and leaders of self-help groups shouted at each other as the former found fault with the women leaders for admitting the girls to an illegal institution, the women charged Health Department for allowing the illegal institutes fleece money from students. Dr. Sai Prasad, who visited the premises on Tuesday, said the institute would be recommended for derecognition.
