Coach guidance facility at Coimbatore Junction

V.S. Palaniappan

There will be Light Emitting Diode-fitted boards on the platform roof

Coimbatore: Here is good news for those arriving at the Coimbatore Railway Junction just before the departure of trains.

Till now, those who arrive before the departure of the trains will have to run around the platform searching for their coaches and reach the platform entrance on the lookout for a board. The board will have plastic tokens hung on hooks for indicating the position of their coach.

Inconvenience

For trains originating from Coimbatore, it would have been easy for passengers in locating the coach but for trains passing through Coimbatore, the very little stoppage time had always caused inconvenience in locating the coach.

To tide over this, the Southern Railway - Palakkad Division is commissioning a Rs. 12-lakh costing Coach Guidance Facility at the Coimbatore Railway Junction. The facility will have Light Emitting Diode (LED) fitted boards on the platform roof, indicating the coach number. Such a facility will enable passengers to locate their coach easily even on a crowded platform.

The Southern Railway had already introduced such a facility at Palakkad and Erode Junctions and Coimbatore is the third station to get such a facility. It is being commissioned on a platform now and will be extended to all platforms in a phased manner. The platform, which is being provided with this facility now, would be used for accommodating more sought after and crowded trains bound for Chennai, Bangalore and other upcountry destinations.

The facility would be provided on all the platforms in a phased manner.

The board will indicate the coach numbers in LED and would keep changing for every train depending on the coach composition of the particular train as and when it is about to chug into the platform. This will be a boon for passengers as it will make their journey more hassle-and-tension-free.
