Chennai: The Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Limited (Mrignayanee) has organised an ethnic handicrafts and handloom exhibition-cum-sale at Corporation Community Centre in Alwarpet.
Wide variety
Block printed maheswari chanderi/kosa (tusser) sarees, waraseoni cotton sarees, vegetable dye bagh printed sarees, batik/vegetable dye/block printed dress material, bedsheets, wall panels and hand woven bedsheets are on display.
Leather, jute
Other exhibits include handicrafts made of leather, jute lacquer ware, bell metal, iron, stone, wood and tribal paintings from Madhya Pradesh. The Mrignayanee office is housed in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board Complex, 180 Luz Church Road Chennai-4. The exhibition is sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) in the Union Ministry of Textiles. Mrignayanee not only motivates craftspersons to continue practising their hereditary skills but also helps to revive dying crafts. It honours craftsperson in the form of State awards for excellence. The exhibition, inaugurated by C.P. Singh, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation last week, is on till December 25.
