CUT IT OUT: Democratic Youth Federation of India activists protesting against the hike in price of cinema tickets at RTC crossroads on Tuesday.
HYDERABAD: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) city committee on Tuesday organised a rasto roko at RTC crossroads seeking withdrawal of the decision to hike cinema ticket prices. The activists criticised the orders vide G.O. 269 and described it as one aimed at ensuring profits to influential producers and distributors. The decision would end up distancing viewers from film theatres, they maintained.
`Chalo Assembly' rally
DYFI city chief M. Venkatesh in a statement issued here objected to the way the police treated the protestors and caned them. Some of the activists were injured, he said. Special Correspondent writes: Meanwhile, the State Unemployed Struggle Protection Committee has called for a `Chalo Assembly' rally here on December 22 demanding filling of 60,000 teacher posts. R. Krishnaiah, president, in a press release accused the Congress of not honouring its pre-election promise of filling the posts. He said although Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as Leader of the Opposition had assured to issue a DSC notification within a month of coming to power, it is yet to be honoured. He claimed that about 40 per cent of the school syllabus could not be completed because of `severe' shortage of teachers.
