Discriminatory Bill

The Constitution Amendment Bill envisaging reservation for socially and educationally backward classes, besides Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, in private unaided educational institutions that was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday is discriminatory in nature. If there were genuine interest in helping the deserving students, unaided educational institutions run by minorities would not have been exempted from the ambit of the Bill.

P.U. Krishnan,
Udhagamandalam, T.N.

The Bill is not only flawed but discriminatory as it excludes minority institutions. It will be a great setback to social justice if seats are not reserved uniformly.

B.M. Baliga,
Bangalore

Reservation in the private sector will destroy professionalism and competitiveness. At a time when India is making slow but steady progress, decisions such as this are a step backward.
