Split was inevitable

This refers to the editorial, "Cub versus Tiger" (Dec. 21). The split in the Shiv Sena was inevitable once Bal Thackeray made it clear his son Uddhav would be his political heir. Had Mr. Bal Thackeray listened to his mind rather than his heart he would have anointed Raj Thackeray as his successor. Raj, for all his follies, is a mass leader and is also adept at the kind of politics the Shiv Sena is known for. It will be a tough act for Uddhav to manage the party on his own and ward off the challenge from his detractors. However, it may be too early to write off the Shiv Sena at this stage.
