CHENNAI: Five achievers in different fields were honoured at a function held to mark the beginning of Christmas and New Year festivities organised by the National Integration Committee, Tamil Nadu. The meritorious awards were presented by the Rev. Dr. A.M. Chinnappa, Archbishop, Madras-Mylapore, at a function here on Wednesday. The celebrations are being organised by the National Integration Committee, Tamil Nadu, All India Christian Federation and Chennai Tamil Sangam. The achievers honoured were, Xavier Britto (Shipping and Logistics), Alhaj Dr. S.M. Hamid Abdul Quadir (Educational Institutions), Rev. Sr. Dr. Marciana (Education), Revathy Sankaran (Mass Media) and Lalith Kumar (Yoga). Speakers led by the Archbishop spoke about the essence of Christmas and New Year celebrations which, they said, provided a ray of new hope and confidence. Former Mizoram Governor A. Padmanabhan recalled the yeoman service rendered by the All India Christian Federation and Chennai Tamil Sangam. M. Nageswaran, General Manager, Regional Services, Indian Oil Corporation; M. Gopalakrishnan, president, Chennai Tamil Sangam; Nalli Kuppusamy Chetti, industrialist; Rev. Sr. Antonyammal, Provincial, Bon Secours Convent; Harbhajan Singh, Founder Secretary, Developers India, and Rev. Bishop B.A. James Santhosam, founder president, Prince of Peace Ministries, were among those who offered felicitations. M. Kumaresan, convenor, said the non-political organisation took pride in honouring achievers, which would motivate younger generation to perform well.
