Thanjavur
G. Srinivasan
Thanjavur: Come winter, it is time for people to wear sweater, though the region may not be as cold as hill stations like Kodaikanal, Ooty. The prolonged rain of four spells that preceded the beginning of Margazhi, the Tamil winter month, has increased the sale of sweaters by hawkers on Medical college road and other places.
Misty mornings
Tanjoreans have been experiencing misty mornings and evenings, rainy days and cold winters these days. S.Abraham Lincoln is a regular seasonal seller of sweaters in Thanjavur. He has a place on the Medical college road where he sells sweaters during winter every year. This year also he is there with his variety of sweaters brought from Ludhiana in Punjab. A graduate in economics, Lincoln is doing the business for the past seven years. "In summer I shift to selling cloth materials including cotton shirts and pants. The sale is good," he said. There are now a dozen of hawkers selling sweaters including those from Nepal.
